Title: Indigo Buntings

A fellow amatuer birder in my area told me that we can expect indigo buntings to fly through our area in May...but that they don't stick around...I'm in the grey bruce area...is this true? I expected that they nested here...

I got to see my first last year, outside of the city at an area called the "badlands".

We had a pair in the woods behind our house last summer.  Both were very timid and you almost never saw the female.  Seemed to be mostly evening/dusk feeders like the cardinals.

I once had one on my niger feeder at 7:30am on Mothers Day for all of 15 mins! I'm in Brampton.
And I've also seen one in the past at Willow Park, Norval (Georgetown area) during the day. Beautiful birds

Without fail I have a pair come to our feeders for a few days in May every year. I could set the calendar by them as they always appear about May 12th-14th. Unfortunately they don't seem to stick around.

I always see lots of them at the Countryside Preserve in Uxbridge.

I dont think its a great secret..they nest in High Park in Toronto,near the alotment gardens. (used to last time I was there at least)
