Title: Robin rescue.
Post by: Ron Luft on April 20, 2010, 11:07:58 AM
I know one Robin that would say Phew! That was close. Thanks.

A work colleague told me of his close encounter of the Robin kind. Looking off his back deck he spotted a Robin in the yard. No biggee. On watching though he noticed that it was struggling and only hopping around. He slowly approached the fearful bird and was able to capture it in his hands. It was then he noticed that it had a 'huge' (for a Robin) piece of wood/bark stuck through the feathers of one wing. A gentle tug with his fingers dislodged the piece. The Robin then gave a quick shake to restore feather alignment and flew off none the worse apparently, though nary a thank you. Not bad for a complete non-birder!
