Title: Brickworks April 30
Post by: mr.sharp-photo on April 30, 2010, 04:11:51 PM
I did a quick walkarond in the Brickworks today. Key word: quick.

nothing to see except for construction, dust near the front gates, dogs off leashes and swimming in the ponds (uggg) and some nice trees in bloom.

I see more birds in my back yard than i saw at the 'Works today.  I think the late migration is really visible (or invisible). This time last year, there were goldfinches and pine siskins and lots of goodness (maybe even a black-crowned night heron or 2).  lately? next-to-no goldfinches.  even the red-winged blackbirds were barely visible (a dozen in total). the kingfishers were MIA (which happens time to time). one or two grackles were there, two pair of Cnd Geese and 1 mallard.

really a sad showing so far this spring.

From what I know there are no Siskins (or very few) in the area this year.  Last winter/spring was due to an "irruption" and they were every where...  as were the Crossbills.  I even saw Siskins in my backyard last July which was really odd.  I didn't see any reports from my Wild Birds Unlimited store.
