Title: If You Like Orchard Orioles ...
Post by: norman on May 01, 2010, 06:18:14 PM
High Park 0730h - 1100h: No heavy concentrations down east side, greenhouse area, or east side Grenadier Pond, but a couple of bg gnatcatchers, a probable merlin (flashed by low in crummy light), loads of barn swallows, a shoveller on the pond (no nose jokes, please), and a singing contest involving 2 orchard orioles near the east side of Grenadier (Hillside Gardens).

If you're not familiar with their tune, think of a warbling vireo on steroids and caffeine -- shorter (5-6 seconds), jumbly outbursts with some pure tones in there ... one of them likes to end almost every blast with a very distinctive "Tweet tweet!"

Regards,
