Title: Barn Swallows at Col. Sam Smith Park
Post by: ravynne40 on May 01, 2010, 10:16:25 PM
Today at Col. Sam Smith Park the barn swallows where chittering and chattering and clicking away and busy building their nests under the platform, I was fortunate enough to get some "resting" shots.
One bird has strange coloring..not white underbelly.. was wondering if anyone has ever seen this in other barn swallows?
here is his image

here is another with white underbelly

Very nice shots! I think the one with white is Fmale, with a shorter fork tail, the one with orange underpart and longer fork tail is the male ^_^
( I am just guessing) or maybe one in it's mating color and the other is not?

i'm thinking maybe he's a young one? nothing in my book tells me anything other then the white belly

Can't comment on the white belly, but they're great shots Irene.

Nice shots Irene!
A pale underbelly and shorter forked tail suggest either a female or juvenile (from Birds of Canada)

Awesome pics! How do you add the photos into the post? I can't find the instructions anywhere, except to say that you have to do it through and external site. Your help is appreciated.
