Today we saw our first pair of Baltimore Orioles in the area. I heard the male before I spotted him, with the female nearby... I recognized the sound but it took me a moment before I remembered who that was.
We spotted them at Smythe Park off Scarlett Road... thanks for recommending this place John! I should have told you we were going, since it's so close to you, but it was on a whim.

Rob (and Angie) ... awesome! Can't wait to see some out here.
Jo-Anne :D

We immediately went home and put out oranges and grape jelly!! :D
-
Very nice. I saw 2 at Thickson Woods on the w/e, but they stayed pretty high up in the tree. I've heard of the oranges, but grape jelly????
-
Oh, they love grape jelly! That's how I attracted them into the yard the first year we got them.

Supposedly Welches is their fave. We had an Oriole feeder that held an orange half, four spots for jelly and then sugar water too. It would get pretty nasty with ants, bees, wasps all drowning in the sugar water. ICK! A Squirrel knocked it off last year, it smashed into pieces. We bought a simpler one on the weekend, it looks nicer too... now I hope they return.

I put my feeder out two weeks ago but haven't seen any - hope that I get some this year. Last year I only saw them on a couple of occasions in my yard.

The pair we get, I am assuming have been the same pair the last couple years (or I'd like to think), are around for one to two weeks in late May and then we see them in late August for the same amount of time. Through the summer it's only the odd time one shows up.
