Title: More Moose
Post by: mike on May 08, 2010, 12:18:10 PM
Took yet another Friday off work and was out the door at 3:30am up to Algonquin again. Love it up there. So peaceful. Saw 8 Moose, 1 Fox, and filmed a Pileated from closeup. I'll post the footage after I've edited.

Thanks Clemens. It's the right time of year for seeing Moose, that's for sure. Highway 60 has to be one of the easiest and best spots on the entire planet for Moose viewing. We are lucky to be so close.

I have seen lots of Moose in my lifetime.  For those of you who want to view Moose, Algonquin Provincial Park is an awsome place.  Moose crave sodium.  In winter, Highway 60 is salted.  In May and June, the salt from Highway 60 gets washed away with the rain and melting snow into the ditches.  The Moose visit Highway 60 to drink the salty water.  The best time is 5:00am-9:00am and 5:00pm-9:00pm.  However, Moose can be viewed earlier or later too.  In the summer,  Moose get their sodium by eating aquatic vegetation.
