Yesterday afternoon I met up with a girlfriend for a walk near her home. She's not a "birder", but I took my binoculars with me anyway, so glad I did!! She lives on the North side of Lakeshore and we followed the trail down to the park and looped around. The walk which usually takes her an hour, took us two, but she was enjoying me showing her all the birds too, and I gladly shared my binoculars with her.
Yellow Warblers
Grey Catbirds
Cardinals
Red-tailed Hawk
Many Swans on the lake
White-throated Sparrows
White-crown Sparrows
Blue Jay
Yellow-rumped Warbler (First!)
Black and White Warbler (First!)
and....drum roll please......I've been waiting YEARS to see this bird....a male Scarlet Tanager!!! I was so HAPPY!!! We got to watch him quite a while, didn't even need the binoculars, though, of course I used them to get a better look at him.
It's kinda funny, Rob's been wanting to see this bird for as long as I have, and he wasn't with me. I plan a walk with a friend who dosen't really care what she sees, and she sees this guy! She was quite impressed too. Rob and I are going back on Saturday, fingers crossed.
