Title: Fallout, Trinity Bellwoods Park, Friday 14 May
Post by: Andreas Jonsson on May 14, 2010, 04:08:01 PM
Amazing day today in Trinity Bellwoods Park, as elsewhere around Toronto. Luckily I had locked myself out of my apartment, so I could spend much more time birding than I ought to. :-)

The birds were so numerous that there was no way to cover them all in a couple of hours of birding. Black-throated blues were singing from every tree, Veerys were in every bush, Chimney swifts swarming above. I've never seen so may Ovenbirds. New arrivals included Indigo buntings and Catbirds. 45 species altogether for the day, pretty impressive for a downtown park. Highlight of the day for me were 15 species of warblers, including Northern Waterthrush and Canada warbler, and Lincoln sparrows and six Scarlet tanagers.

Edit: I upped the species total to 45. I also had an unidentified Empidonax flycatcher. Birding was best a long the western edge of the park.

Title: Birds remaining on Saturday
Post by: Andreas Jonsson on May 15, 2010, 08:51:07 PM
I made a quick stop in Trinity Bellwoods this afternoon. Not surprisingly most warblers from yesterday's fallout had moved on, but there was still a quartet of warblers (Northern Parula, Magnolia, Black-throated Blue and six Ovenbirds) and a trio of migrating thrushes (Veery, Swainson's and Hermit) around. Two Lincoln's Sparrows, five White-throated Sparrows and three White-crowned Sparrows were also seen.

All birds were found in "the Bowl" (dog play ground).
