Title: OFO Trip-The Spit
Post by: Cody on May 16, 2010, 03:28:48 PM
Will any other members on this board be coming to the OFO trip to the Leslie Street Spit on May 29th?

We're taking in the bird festival at Sam Smith Park that day.

@Cody: I assume this outing is only for OFO members. Correct?

@angieinto: Do you have any info about festival?

Thanks.

I believe that some non-members are allowed, because last years trip review said that some non-members attended.  You should check with the group leader first. Are you an OFO member :?:

Not a member no.

Before I was an OFO member I went to a few walks and there wasn't any issue. The walks are all published on the public OFO Site (http://www.ofo.ca/fieldtrips/tripsupcoming.php) and there's no mention of them being members only. I'm sure you could come out.

Maybe this would be a good time for me to become a member. I have been thinking about joining from time to time. Do you know if they car-pool to get to some of the outings? They have an awesome program, I would love to go on some of the trips in June, when the birding in Toronto dies down.

I've spoken to Dave Milsom (OFO trip coordinator) about carpooling in the past, but I've never had an opportunity to try it out. He seemed optimistic about it. Basically he said to get in touch with him before the trip and he'll try to figure out if there's anyone going from my area.

Great, looks like a good turnout from the board. I'm really hoping I can make it.

By the way, the OFO Carden Alvar trip is the next day. I went last year and it was awesome.

Who ended up going to this? How was it? I had to bail because I had some friends from out of town visiting.

The trip was ok, but  there were some missing species because of the hot weather earlier in the week. There were over 39 people at first, and then some joined and some left. I left around 2:30 because it was getting slow, but I should have stayed to see the 2 flocks of Whimbrel and the Horned Grebe.  Come next year!

@angieinto: Nice. I'm so jealous you made it to the Carden OFO trip. I went last year and it was amazing. Couldn't get out this year unfortunately.
