A lone Whimbrel landed on the west pier of whitby harbour shortly afternoon.
This location is regularly used by whimbrels to wait out bad weather. They like it, for access to the pier is hard for most people and everything approaching by land is very visible. Boat traffic does occasionally scare them off the pier if they pass too close and there are not enough gulls and terns present to relax them.
The mudflats where pringle creek empties into the harbour had only one semi-palmated plover
