while sailing on the queen mary II from newyork to southampton recently we shared the company of a White crowned sparrow who roosted on our balcony each evening and apparently disembarked when we docked. i worried how this
avian traveller would make out if deciding to stay in europe. Presumably winters in the Uk are not as cold as in ontario.
is this a frequent occurrence, does anyone know?

Interesting. Not all rarities fly across the ocean by themselves apparently.
I guess the British Birds Rarities Committee http://www.bbrc.org.uk/ (http://www.bbrc.org.uk/) would be interested in this observation.
