The pelican reported yesterday was still in the marsh this evening at 7pm.
Also present were 1 Great Egret, 58 great blue Herons, lots of Wood ducks.
-
Are these the same types of pelicans that you find in Manitoba?
-
Yes.

How very exciting! Do you think the pelican will stay now that it is late in the season? Do you know if it has it been seen here before? Unfortunatlely, I probably won't get a chance to check it out b/f the weekend as I live about an hour away.

The American White Pelican was still present at 7:30 PM

Still present Tuesday at 5 pm.

Is it located where you can get a picture of it, I would be happy enough just to see it though.
-
When I saw it it was pretty far out to start with (but clearly visible even without binoculars). Then it took a swim and later flew in our direction, landed and started fishing near the eastern platform. I think it is hit and miss if you are going to be lucky enough to see it close up. It's a big marsh.

Thanks typically I have good luck so I am hoping to get some good pics but I will bring the Binocs just in case..

American White Pelican is still present.
Most evenings this week it has been on the island west of the GM platform about 7 PM. It will spend about an hour preening before it tucks its head in and settles down for the evening.

Our timing was perfect today. We arrived at 11 am. We parked in the GM lot and I saw the pelican flying in the distance. It came closer, flew over us and then flew toward the marsh. We got to the observation platform and it flew right over us again. It then flew to the far side, landed in the water and started to preen. We had brought a couple who are not birders and they were very impressed with the sightings. (Thank you to the father and daughter who let us look at the bird through their scope.) At 11:20, we were getting back in the car and the bird flew over us again, before heading out to the lake. These are big birds, but such elegant fliers.
I also couldn't believe the number of GBHs that are all over the marsh!

Awesome. We saw it last night around 8pm but we weren't lucky enough to get to see it fly. We were also blow away by the number of Herons.

Made my first trip to Second marsh yesterday and saw the pelican on the far shore from the GM parking lot. Thanks to a kind gentleman from Ottawa who allowed me to look thro' his scope, I saw the unbelievable numbers of GBH that others had seen. What a sight.
-
I was delighted to see the pelican there over the weekend, and of course the dozens of GBH's as well...
A happy surprise was the collection of 20-30 long-tailed ducks still hanging around; I don't remember seeing them in July before!
