For the past 3 years a family of skunks has been raised under my backyard shed . Those in the photo will be leaving the nest within the next few days which is usually what happens when they begin to forage during the daylight hours.

aren't they cute!!! My guess is that you don't have a dog.

RDK,
Your guess is correct . We don't have a dog , nor do our adjoinning neighbors. Yesterday a large racoon briefly poked it's head into the opening then took off really fast
Thanks,
Jim

they are so cute and yet....peppy may not be a backyard fav of mine
How are they when you try to cut the grass?

Not a peep ( or a spray ) from them when I cut the grass or bang around in the shed . During the nesting period and until the youngsters are the size in the photos and venturing out when we can see them in the early evening - you woundn't know that a family of skunks was being raised under the shed.
In the past 3 years ( maybe longer), aside from a bit of free lawn aeration , they have been no problem at all .
Thanks,
Jim
