Title: Adult Bald Eagle

Hi everyone.  Today at 3:45pm, an adult Bald Eagle flew past my window, heading in a NE direction - beautiful white head!  :D

Good for you Jo-Anne, wish I have the chance to see bald eagle!

cocosally ... had another adult Bald Eagle sighting this morning!  The one on Sunday was large, the one this morning was very large.  I'm wondering if the Sunday one was a male and the one today was a female!  :D

WOW...what lake are they hanging out at?

I once saw one at my parents house in Port Credit -- a juvenile...but that was way back in 1993...it was perched on some deadfall overhangingthe lake.

Hi Axeman.

Once the weather settles down a bit ( :shock: ), I'm going to check out 2 locations:

1.  Meadowvale Conservation Area ... North side of Old Derry Rd., just East of Creditview Rd.

2.  Credit Meadows Park ... East side of Creditview Rd., just North of Britannia Rd. and just a couple of blocks South of Argentia Rd. where I sighted yesterday's Bald Eagle.  

Credit River runs through both of these above locations.  The only "lakes" up in this area are Lake Aquitaine and Lake Wabukayne.  I've sighted Bald Eagles flying past Lake Aquitaine numerous times over the years but never visiting the lake itself.  I did see a Golden Eagle at the East end of Lake Wabukayne many years ago standing on some grass right by the water!  

Hmmm ... I might also have to check out the following location:

3.  Osprey Marsh and Woods ... East side of Ninth Line, just North of Britannia Rd.  Apparently Great Blue Herons love this location so perhaps Bald Eagles are there or nearby as well.  http://heritagemississauga.com/page/Osprey-Marsh (http://heritagemississauga.com/page/Osprey-Marsh)

Wow! Jo-Anne, all these area I haven't heard before 9still try to explore Mississauga), but again, good for you to see the bald eagle, I think their number are slowly up again, I will wait until the heat passes as I am melting ^_^ right now.......

cocosally ... I love hot, sunny weather but can't handle this extreme humidity, heat and smog.   :shock:  This whole week, the air conditioner has been on all day and all night.  For the most part, I've been just staying inside - don't even want to head out the door to do anything.

You would especially enjoy Meadowvale Conservation Area - lots of nice walking trails, woods, a suspension bridge, etc.

Thanks for the thread and location info besides humming birds I think a Bald Eagle would be the second greatest capture for me...

If you are successful in locating one or more adults again in the area you might considering giving the Ministry a call and report the sighting - the bald eagle is still listed as endangered in Ontario,  and the possibility that one or more adults are spending time in the area might be of interest to someone - it can't hurt to report it anyway.  I suppose it's conceivable this bird or birds is a really really early migrant,  but the beginning of July is really pushing it.  And if the bird has been seen flying NE,  that's the exact opposite direction from the fall migration path :-)

The Bald Eagle is NOT classified as endangered in Ontario.

In southern Ontario is is classified as special concern which is below endangered and threatened. It is a status given to species that are:
A) starting to show visible declines which may bring them to become threatened shortly
examples ( red-headed Woodpecker, Golden-winged Warblers, etc.)

or in the case of Bald Eagles

b) a rare/threatened/endangered species that has increased enough to be delisted from these catagories but not healthy enough to be totally delisted.
other species showing this trend are Hooded Warblers and Lousiana Waterthrush

Bald Eagles are currently breeding or attempting this year in hamilton harbour area( 1 pair), lake Simcoe (1 pair) Grand River 5 pair, Niagara river 1-2 pairs etc. This roaming adult could be from one of these nest that may have failed, or first year breeder who did not find a mate.

Colin ... the 2nd sighting (Wednesday) location:  North side of Argentia Rd. at Campobello Rd. (one block West of Creditview Rd.) He/she was standing on grass about 8 feet away from Argentia Rd. then took off flying in a NE direction. Wow, so thrilling and got a great look at him/her!  :D

Gut instinct tells me to go check out Meadowvale Conservation Area first as both Bald Eagle sightings were heading in a NE direction!

ostrich ... I looked up the Ministry website and clicked on the Bald Eagle category.  To make a long story short, it says to report sightings to Bird Studies Canada so I sent the lady an e-mail.  :)  I've also reported the sightings to Mark Cranford (South Peel Naturalists' Club).

Hello Jo-Anne, we took a brief walk on Friday after work (and after the rain) the weather was still pretty humid in the Meadowvale Conservation Area, as well as feeding the mosquito, As soon as I entered the trail, within 2 minutes, I feed about 5-6 mosquitos!!! :oops:
We didn't walk through the whole area as it started raining again, we didn't see any Bald Eagle yet.

Have you tried the mosquito and black fly patch? It's supposed to work very well and is available in a lot of stores now such as Wal-Mart, Home Hardware, etc. It contains only vitamin B, which the bugs don't like, apparantly.
