today Thursday I was testing out my quick shooting out of about 100 pictures..one..and only one came out clear
Meghan please don't laugh...its a TERN! I'm not sure how he ended up upside down...I'm figuring their aero-dynamics when they fly had something to do with it.

Nice Heron! What equipment do you use?

Thanks for the comments,
I'm using a NIkon D90 with a 500mm sigma zoom lens, set to P on the dial and ..off I go, hand held, I started hand holding the sigma from day one when I got it and NOW i have an aversion to my tripod, which I need to start using...soon...someone told me my pictures would be much clearer and cleaner if I used a tripod...

The detail on the bunny is outstanding. Not bad for handheld! Great photos.

the heron,s nice, and the bunny is sharp.your success rate would greatly improve as far as steadiness goes with the tripod, but they are a pain to lugg around, especially when walking through the woods.i use a 400 prime with flight brace as my walk around, and frankly,my 500 ,and tripod sit at home most days.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone, I have become quite comfy with the hand holding, and I am going to work on some tripod shots when I'm not rushed for time, the bird seeking and photo taking has definitely become an addiction and quite theraputic for me :) and I love every minute I can snag to get out and click.
If i don't find birds, there is always something else..a flower, a bug..some scenery...This weekend I am going up to take some pictures of a horse jumping competition...should prove quite the challenge and fun! I'm taking everything with me..3 lenses, the tripod, and am going early to view which angle will be the best for good shots.

Nice shots. I can't hand hold my 400 and actually struggle with the flight brace in some situations - so good for you :)

The Tern is awesome...the bunny priceless...and the BCNH very familiar
Great job Irene.
