nice action shot sue.
it appears to be a caspian tern, and not a common tern.
-
Great shot!
-
That's a Caspian, all right, and a terrific shot of a tricky bird! Very well done! I am envious and delighted all at once!
-
I thought the Caspian Tern has a black tip on the bill (checked the Cornell site). This one does not seem to have any black tip .. that's why I thought it was a Common.
-
The common tern has red legs and feet...
-
hi sue. here,s one of each starting with the caspian.

common tern.
you cant tell from the pics, but it,s much smaller than the caspian, and it has the black tip on the end of the beak.

Nice action shot!

Thanks everyone ... I was concentrating on the bill tip colour but it's the black feet that tell the tale that it's a Caspian.
Thanks to everyone for correcting my Subject. Does anyone know how to change the subject to "Caspian" ?
