Saw an unusual medium-sized gull at the beaches last Thursday 22nd (have only just got membership so am posting now as an alert in case anybody else gets a closer look). It sat next to ring-billed gulls but took off almost as soon as I saw it. It was a juvenile gull, slightly smaller than the ring-billed and with a more slender, delicate bill. As unlikely as it is, had I been on the West Coast I would have just id'd it as a mew gull without a second thought - but as we are on the shores of Lake Ontario I wish I had had longer to look at it. I did not get a chance to take a photograph and could not relocate it in the next hour. It was definitely bigger than a Bonaparte's Gull.
