Title: Sedge Wrens ? anybody
Post by: Napper on August 06, 2010, 10:08:50 PM
Hey!

Anybody have any knowledge about them?

Really weird today, I thought I was hearing Grackles or Red-Wing Black Birds.. After looking for a while I gave up.

Again  this evening I was drawn to the back fence by this invisible bird and found Wren like birds in the trees behind the house and along the fence making this

noise.  Check,Check.Check   Just like a Grackle..

Napper:))

Hope they will be back tomorrow, Not likely..

p.s. spotted a Black and White Warbler today, tree next door,   Balm Beach

I saw a b/w warbler a couple summers ago...in my magical tree -- the  yellow birch. Very distinctive.

I think you have House Wrens. I had them recently in my backyard and they were making the sounds you describe.

Thanx

I think your correct.  They were around again this morning. got a quik pic. Funny thou they have been around most of this summer but I have never heard them make that sound. Usually it is a nice song.

Napper:)

Right now sitting on the deck watching a race and the feeders and the trees around the place. Tons of Chickadee's, a bunch of Chipping sparrows,Two Male AM Gold Finches fighting over a female.  There is a Hairy Woodpecker in the tree across the lane. Northern Flicker in the distance behind us. No Merlin this morning which was nice meaning we were able  to sleep past 6:00 am

P.s. We were in Penatang today on the way back to Balm Beach we spotted a Broadwing Hawk cross over Concession 11.

Suspect it could be the juveniles making that sound.
