Yesterday evening, while paddling the lower Humber River, I counted 11 Great Egrets rooting in the trees on the east side of the most southerly bay (where the cormorants nest). That section of the river is a reliable place to see egrets, but I've never seen that many together there. I assume this is post-breeding birds moving south.
