Title: Shorebirds at Frenchman's Bay, Sun. 19 Sep.
Post by: Andreas Jonsson on September 20, 2010, 04:37:57 AM
Hi,

I found the following shorebirds at Frenchman's Bay on Sunday:

30 Lesser Yellowlegs
1 Solitary Sandpiper
5 Pectoral Sandpiper
3 Stilt Sandpiper
1 Long-billed Dowitcher
2 Least Sandpiper

Some digi-scoped images and videos are available here:

Most birds were in Krosno Creek just east of Frenchman's Bay. The exceptions were the Solitary and
Least Sandpipers which were found in the NW corner of Frenchman's Bay.

PS. I dropped my Sibley's Eastern Guide somewhere along the way. If you find it, please let me know. Thanks.

I watched the youtube video of the Long-billed Dowitcher. An excellent video marred only by that damn rubber tire. It's sad that natural wildlife habitats are still magnets for people's trash.

Yes, that creek is unfortunately just filled with rubbish. Birds don't seem to mind though.

Nice!  What is your video camera?

Hi David,

I use a very simple (and old) snapshot camera, the Casio Z750, mainly because it has a 3x zoom lens, which is optimal for digiscoping. It has VGA resolution video. However, I am looking into getting a new camera with high definition video. Canon S95, Canon SD4000, Canon SD1400...
