Title: Night time sighting, GB Heron
Post by: Napper on September 21, 2010, 09:26:53 PM
Hey!

I had  an errand to run down at the mall 5 minute walk from my place. On the way back I sighted what I think was a GB Heron.

It was Just after 9 pm fully dark backlit by the bright moon. It passed the tree in front of me and landed at the 6 foot wide creek down in the small

valley adjacent our street.

At first I thought Owl! Then it landed by or in the creek.

GB Heron flight at  night is a first for me..

Napper :))  What a beautiful night.

I read somewhere, I don't remember where, that a lot of shorebirds and wading birds will feed at night as often as during the day.

GBH's are very active feeders at night.
Migration typically occurs at night as well.
