I have been trying to see these short-eared owls for a while now. I kept hearing about them but never seeing them. I finally saw 2 on Amherst yesterday east of Owl woods. Here are a couple of shots along with a rough-legged hawk:)

I have been going over to the island for a while now and have never seen one. Lots of Snowies; long eared, & ssaw whets.

I stumbled onto these 2 owls, I walked thru the area where the long-eared owls are and when I came to the east side of the woods, one of them was flying right toward me I thought it was a harrier at first and didnt pay alot of attention to it. I put up my camera and when I got it in focus, I saw it was an owl. It just kept coming toward me and I fired off a few shots. Right place, right time I guess:)

Nice shots. It's hard to get a Shortie in flight. I believe Bruce DiLabio's counted over 20 SEOW's on Amherst this winter.
The Roughie must have been fairly close.
