Title: Presqu'ile PP - Oct. 1/2010
Post by: Anonymous on October 02, 2010, 10:48:49 AM
Went out and spent a nice day at Presqu'ile PP - some great sightings to boot.

1 Juvenile Bald Eagle
1 Ruffed Grouse (Rufous Adult)
5 Juvenile Black Bellied Plovers
1 Merlin
1 Pileated Woodpecker
25+ Juvenile Sanderlings
25+ Semipalmated Sandpipers
10 Least Sandpipers
10+ Semipalmated Plovers
Several songbirds - still trying to id them.

On the animal side...

Numerous adult and baby garter snakes, including 1 with a frog kill.
White tailed deer
Raccoon

From my viewing, I have yet to see any winter ducks near to shore, and the hunters weren't successful either off of the Owen Point islands.  En route to and while in the park, I saw upwards of 30 migrating turkey vultures - a sure sign of things to come.  The leaves in the park have yet to change colour, however, along the 401, there are several locales where the leaves are now a bright red, orange, and yellow.

Cheers, Attila
