Title: Thrushes & Kinglets
Post by: jayzie1 on October 03, 2010, 12:47:35 PM
My backyard has been quite busy the past few days.  There must be lots of insects in the vines surrounding my property as we've been attracting birds I've not seen before.

I've had a pair of Hermit Thrushes visit the past few days and this morning, we had at least 4 of what I think are Ruby Crowned Kinglets (which were very hard to ID due to their constant movement!)

Cool. We had a hermit thrush visit us too on the weekend. Nice to see in a downtown Toronto backyard!

I have had two hermit thrushes.  Lots of white throated sparrows, 2 juncos, lots of chickadees, cardinal family, bluejays.  A flock of grackles swooped through my back yard quickly the other morning.  It was quite a sight to see.

The thrushes have now been visiting my backyard for a week.  Which surprises me somewhat since they're a migrant - but I suppose there's a really good food source for them, so they're "filling up" before their journey.

Lots of chickadees, a brown creeper, carolina wren, white-breasted nuthatch and for the first time, had a downy at the feeder (which is currently filled with shelled peanuts) in the past week.  Probably the best birding I've ever had in my very urban, downtown TO backyard : )
