Title: Giant Puffball
Post by: Brian Bailey on October 12, 2010, 07:22:28 PM
Had an interesting sighting while cycling the waterfront trail in Mississauga yesterday.  Not birds or wildlife, so I'm posting it here:

A giant puffball!  I knew they could get that big, but I've never seen them myself until yesterday.  The binoculars (full sized 8X40) are included for scale.  This is the largest of 4 in the same small area.  The smallest ones were about the size of a 5-pin bowling ball.

I didn't even notice them.  It was my wife who spotted them.  Even after getting the bins on this one, I thought it was probably just a piece of foam garbage.

i had the same experience recently hiking in the woods.

Found these two suckers.  Never seen any this big before.  The large one was just shy of being the size of a full size soccer ball.
Oh and we grilled these up and they were quite tasty.  They also kept for a week and were fine.
