Title: Red-breasted nuthatches
Post by: jjmb on October 31, 2010, 08:25:43 PM
For the past week, I've been enjoying a pair of red breasted nuthatches coming to my feeders. Haven't seen them much in the last few years. They are so cute and seem to be really lapping up the sunflower seeds. Also saw goldfinches, a purple finch, and golden crowned kinglets. Keeping them company are my usual guests - cardinals, chickades, doves, white-throated sparrows, juncos, white breasted nuthatches, and downy woodpeckers.

I still have water in my birdbath and they have been using it quite a bit too.

We too are enjoying the visits of a pair of red breasted nuthatches. They can be very unafraid of humans too. Ours will come land on the feeders while we are filling them, I'm sure if I had the patience/time they would eat out of our hands.

I have a couple of white breasted nuthatches that come to my peanut feeder too.  They too are very brave little things and don't care if I am in the back yard when they are.
