Title: Red-tailed hawk eating (graphic!)

Just a small intro to allow those who are squeamish to click away from this page...

first, i want to quickly thank Colin for inspiring me to go to the Brickworks again. his pictures from yesterday made me want to see the BW in the fall.

was at the Brickworks with my wife and we spotted a RTH. we saw it fly from tree to tree and then disappear near a pond. while walking a path, i saw it perched on a branch in front of us. it had its lunch in its claws and we watched it eat its catch over 5 minutes.
not entirely sure what it is. it looks like a rat or possibly a muskrat(?).  I'll post more pictures as the evening goes on...

Well done.
The last pic is my favorite.
Between both you Colin I think I have been convinced to head over to the BW.

just remember: $2/hr for parking!

the Brickworks can be quite magical (as long as dog walkers aren't ruining it).

in the winter, there usually is a kestrel there and you can see merlins. not as good as James Gardens, but it can be alright. go while the leaves are nice and brown. its beautiful there.

Great series, love the last one as well and may have to make a trip down to the city this weekend,  Humber Arboretum then Brickworks and maybe a stop at Col Sam Smith

Richard awesome you have out done me in the grossness factor lol...

This is the same Hawk....if you look close at my pics and yours you can see what looks like fishing line or something tangled up in the images must be hanging of the claws?

weird...i thought that was a branch.

the coolest part was watching the two hawks interact. they were letting out the most gentle (and loving) peeps to each other when they were on the tree in front of us. was neat to see them play.

did your hawk eat the intestines? mine spat it out.

that's a crazy amount of driving!!
15 min to get from Brickworks to Sam Smith, 15-20 min to get from Smith to Humber.
