Title: Sharp-shinned Hawk and Crow fight at Lake Aquitaine - Nov. 3
Post by: Bird Brain on November 03, 2010, 04:20:30 PM
Hi everyone.  I was walking around Lake A. today between 9:15am-12:15pm.  Sighted the following at the East end of the lake:

Crow cawing up a storm then I saw the Sharpie nearby!  These 2 chased each other for 10 minutes from tree to tree and branch to branch, making all sorts of sounds and dive bombing each other.  I guess the Crow was finally fed up and cawed for back up - 2 more Crows appeared.  All 3 Crows were going after the Sharpie but he was determined to get the first Crow.  Fighting continued for another 10 minutes!  Finally the hawk flew away.  All 3 Crows decided to swoop down to the paved trail to eat some shelled peanuts that I was feeding to the squirrels.

Apparently people at the lake have sighted a Sharpie having a gull for lunch and a male RWBB for breakfast.

Other sightings:

Canada Geese
Cardinals
Golden-crowned Kinglets (1m, 4f)
Gulls
Mallards
Red-breasted Nuthatches
Sparrows

Lake Aquitaine:  SE corner of Glen Erin Dr./Aquitaine Ave., behind the Meadowvale Community Centre.
