Title: Purple Sandpiper on the Spit
Post by: Ed O'Connor on November 06, 2010, 02:24:58 PM
I biked the Spit this morning looking for Purple Sandpipers off all the points at the southern end, and just after noon found a single bird on the algae-covered rocks at the end of Pipit Point. In the water off the point were a Common Loon, a Horned Grebe, and a Red-necked Grebe, and at the base of the point I flushed a Common Snipe. There are still large flocks of Snow Buntings off the Eastern Arm, and the rafts of ducks in Cell 4 include a pair of American Coots and six Ruddy Ducks.
