Title: Kingfisher and 2RTH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Post by: cabz on December 01, 2010, 07:09:35 PM
My husband and I consider our "backyard" to be our front yard, as we are on the Credit river.  Today I heard and saw a Kingfisher, think he was fishing in the neighbour's pond and then heard a screeching.  Looked up and there were 2 RTHs soaring, one calling very loudly.

The Redbellied Woodpecker was also here very briefly on the weekend.  We also have a White headed Black Capped Chickadee.  Guess he lost his black hat!!!!!!!

Other species are the usually WBNH, RBNH, BJ, DW, HW, Cardinal, AGF, etc. and numerous Grey, Black Grey Squirrels, and Red ones.

Good birding everyone.  Hope to get out in the holidays.

Our house is on the Credit river and across the river is a small forest, where we hear the GHO calling at this time of year, so think they also nest there and are year round residents.  The other morning, I pulled out of my driveway, up the road abit a big bird took off with something dangling from it's foot.  It was a GHO, with bunny in tow.  Unfortunately, it dropped the rabbit and flew to an evergreen tree.  This was just getting light and I kept going, hoping it would come back for the bunny, but later when I got home, it was still there.  An OMG moment in nature!!!!!!!!!!
