Hi everyone. Today it was the SPNC Christmas Bird Count. :D
Low # of birds in Meadowvale today. Last year: 19 species, 730 birds. This year: 19 species, 479 birds. Counted at Lake Wabukayne, Plowman's Park, Lake Aquitaine and Maplewood Park.
My 2 highlights:
My favourite male Wood Duck at the West end of Lake Wabukayne. Very little open water but there he was surrounded by 125 Mallards.
Male Pileated Woodpecker at Maplewood Park on tree trunk right in front of me - quite a pleasant shock/surprise as I've only ever seen Pileated Woodpeckers at Erindale Park, Riverwood Park and Rattray Marsh. Also sighted 2 Downy Woodpeckers (1m, 1f) at Maplewood Park today as well.
It was really great getting to meet Reuven at the meeting afterwards. 8)
Lake Wabukayne: NE corner of Glen Erin Dr./Windwood Dr., behind condo and school.
Maplewood Park: East side of Glen Erin Dr. just North of Aquitaine Ave.

My highlights:
Pine Siskin, Brown Creeper, Golden-crowned Kinglet, Red-bellied Woodpecker - Riverwood
Winter Wren - Erindale
Mockingbird, Flicker - Springbank

:D Nice sightings!
I was seeing Pine Siskin, Brown Creeper and Golden-crowned Kinglet up here last month but haven't seen a Mockingbird for quite awhile and have yet to ever see a Red-bellied Woodpecker!
Included yesterday's Sharp-shinned Hawk sighting as part of "Count Week". Hopefully will see some good birds over the next few days as well to add to the list.
