Title: Cedar waxwings in North York
Post by: allanc on December 22, 2010, 06:57:57 AM
There is a huge flock of them in our neighbourhood. We heard a huge bird commosion on the weekend walking by some Juniper trees.
We only noticed yellow tipped tails in the trees. When we returned home and looked at the flash cards, we could not believe it!
They had to be some sort of waxwings. We hadn't really taken a closer look at them, since we were really rushing that day.
We both had never seen waxwings before.
We returned again and on Monday and Tuesday brought our binoculars and camera (that little point and shoot).
They have invaded the area for a couple of days now, maybe stripping down the juniper berries along with a huge flock of robins.
Here is place see to some pictures and videos of them.

I have read there may be some Bohemians mixed in with a flock of cedar waxwings.
I am sure I have seen some, but not caught on camera.
I also saw red tipped wings with the binoculars but not caught on camera yet!
