Title: Kestrel
Post by: Soaring Hawk on January 02, 2011, 02:46:19 PM
Saw a female Kestrel hanging around at the intersection of Rutherford and Jane Street, at around 12:30pm.   I was walking to catch the bus and I saw her swoop down about 15 feet away from me into the wild grasses and pounce on something but she didn't catch it.   She then flew up to a telephone wire.    I got to the bus shelter and she sat on that wire for about 4 minutes and then went and fluttered down to a different patch of grass and ended up catching either a mouse or mole or some tiny mammal.....

And then the bus came... so I had to go lol.

On Saturday Feb 19 around noon I saw a Kestrel on top of a tall wooden pole eating something. It was near the footbridge that crosses the lower Don River at the end of Beechwood Dr. It is the first time I have seen one of those birds.

There's a pair I am seeing a few times a week along Scarlett Road just south of Eglinton.

Hey!

Yesterday while leaving work I spotted one of the resident Kestrels checking out last years nest hole in the side of one of our hangers.

Looks like they are already either nested or preparing the nest.

Napper:)

Resident meaning year rounders for the last 4 years
