Title: Coopers in my backyard (near HIgh Park)

About an hour ago, a female Cooper's dropped in to join us for lunch.  She only stayed a minute before seeking a better establishment in which to enjoy her meal--must have been something we said.
This is the first hawk we've seen here since the last Cooper's on March 12, 2010.  Last year we saw quite a few (or the same many times) during fall migration.
I only mention this because it is consistent with Brian Bailey's posting on the Toronto High Park CBC of December 19, in which no accipiters were seen.

The Coopers Hawk was in our backyard in Parkdale twice this week checking out the feeders. It was a large Juvenile. It so frightened the songbirds, a Starling flew in the open kitchen door and nestled in the top of our Norfolk Pine. An efficient catch & release with a fishing net saved the day and the Starling!

We didn't get nearly such an exciting adventure.  Ours just sat in the cherry tree & then left.
If yours is a juvie it's not the same bird, since ours had the barred breast of an adult.  If yours was large (about crow-sized) it was a female.
Nice to have the Cooper's's back.

Following the Coopers Hawk sightings in our Parkdale backyard this past week, 5 minutes ago a Juvenile Red-Tailed Hawk was in our same tree checking out the feeders again.

Our Coopers sat on a tree branch through the late part of Sunday afternoon, waiting for dinner or sunning herself?  She had a blood splattered front side.  I was curious whose blood it was?  She flew off after an hour or so with no signs of it being her (hurt).
