Title: Mockingbird
Post by: northerner2 on January 23, 2011, 12:45:05 PM
A solitary Mockingbird is enjoying daily visits to the water dish. North Brampton....
I have not seen 'him' eating anything at the assorted seed feeders, although I think the suet is attractive !!

We get a Mockingbird in Spring and Summer, he checks out the many feeders but doesn't go to them.  It's the same here, he comes to us for a water source.

I think they are a fruit and insect eater so the seeds might not be his thing.  You know, just like Robins.  I had a pair of Robins here last Spring and was offering them roasted mealworms.  It got to be a daily routine, always in the same spot, and if the worms weren't out there by a certain time, the Robins would sit there and wait.  This went on until after the babies were born and then no more Robins.  I hope it happens again this Spring.

We have had Mockingbirds here during the summer etc., but I was quite surprised to see one in the winter, since I thought they would winter down south more.

As far as I know mockingbirds don't migrate at all.
