Title: Today at Pickering and Whitby

Today we went down to Frenchman's Bay in Pickering where we saw a large number on Goldeneye just floating on the waves, they
were all asleep, we also noticed there were, what looked like several Canvasback mixed in with them, they were also asleep.
Guess the waterbed was comfortable.
Meanwhile the Longtail were fishing away on the outside. we also saw Bufflehead there.
Later my wife was kep busy feeding the birds at Lynn shores in Whitby. All in all it was a good day.

In the 2nd photo you have Greater Scaup mostly with Redhead mixed in
nice mix of ducks

You may be right, I was going by what my book says that both the greater Scaup and Redhead
are not supposed to be here this time of year, thet's why I was calling them Goldeneye and
Canvasback

Thanks for the comments, yes it sure is nice to be able to feed them from your
hand, today they seemed to be extra friendly.

All my birdguides seem to be very inaccurate for the ranges of winter ducks on lake Ontario for some reason. The normal diving ducks in winter are: greater scaup, redhead, bufflehead, common goldeneye, long-tailed, white-winged scoter and redbreasted and common merganser (may be a slightly different mix on that side of Toronto)

 I know the Goldeneye, Bufflehead and Long-tailed are out here, also Common Merganser, I wasn't sure
about the Scrup, Redhead or the others. I am not great at identifying the different Ducks.

Canvasback would be very white at the back, these ducks are gray at the back so are Redheads, also Canvasbacks have a pronounced sloped head
Goldeneyes have white in their head and a diff look than Greater Scaup, so you def have Greater Scaup and Redheads in the photo

Thanks for clearing that up for me,  now I know a little more, but I still have a lot to learn
