I'm on my way to Mexico in a few weeks. Does anyone have any tips/info re: birding the San Miguel de Allende area?

I went to school in San Miguel de Allende in the early 80's , its a tuff area to bird , rember one thing you are in the mountains
so be on the look out for birds that live at a higher altitude ..
best of luck and pleas post the birds you see their when you get back ..

Thanks Craig. I head down next week and return early April. I'll post results.
My usual spots are the large park in town where Great and Snowy Egrets nest separately and a Botanical Garden by a large reservoir just out of town, good for shorebirds and waders and ducks if it's not too dry.
The hotel courtyard always has Vermillion Flycatchers, Golden-fronted Woodpeckers, Great-tailed Grackles and Inca Doves. In the past, I've seen two Swallow-tailed Kites fly right over town.
Still hope to find some new spots.

I've been back from S.M. de Allende for a few weeks. I was working but able to get in a fair bit of birding. The local Audubon Society was helpful and recommended a few spots I hadn't visited on past trips. They are at http://www.audubonmex.org/index.html?enghome (http://www.audubonmex.org/index.html?enghome). If you'd like me to email you my list, let me know with a private message.
