Hi everyone. Today: sunny, -18c windchill, wind gusts 54 km/hr ... Brrr, had a bite to it!
I was walking at Maplewood Park today between 12 noon - 1:30pm. Sighted the following:
Far South end of Maplewood Park (Aquitaine Ave.):
Red-tailed Hawk perched at tip of pine tree.
East and North side of Maplewood Park (closest to Montevideo Rd., behind Maplewood Market strip mall. Huge icicles hanging off back of stores!):
Cardinal x 1 (f)
Chickadees - lots
Crows x 4 - cawing up a storm, chasing a Sharp-shinned Hawk
Downy Woodpecker x 1 (f)
Hairy Woodpecker x 2 (1m, 1f)
House Sparrows - lots
Red-breasted Nuthatches - lots
White-breasted Nuthatches x 2
Starling x 1
West side of Maplewood Park (closest to Glen Erin Dr.): squirrels running, playing, jumping into the air twirling and bouncing off tree trunks - hilarious to observe!
Maplewood Park: East side of Glen Erin Dr., just North of Aquitaine Ave.

Jo-Anne ,
Nice sightings !
The squirrels in my backyard also do those wild stunts - like they've been eating squirrel nip .

Hi Jim. Thanks. :)
This afternoon around 3pm, I was looking out my livingroom window and saw a Sharp-shinned Hawk heading from Lake Aquitaine up towards Maplewood Park. Have been seeing a lot of hawks daily for the past week! 8)

Yes! Reminds me of when my cat plays with her catnip toys then goes tearing around the apartment.
