Title: Two Pileateds @ Rattray Marsh.
Post by: Rob'in'To on February 13, 2011, 11:50:21 AM
Stretched the zoom to the max, a bit of cropping...  but I don't care...  it was awesome for us to see TWO Pileated Woodpeckers at once.  Angie and I have been seeking a Pileated for about 5 years now.  We saw one half a decade ago and have been looking ever since, that is, until yesterday.  We had a good long look at them up in a couple trees.  Gee, I hope it doesn't take me as long to see a Shrike.

Correct me if I am wrong on the sexing.  The first has got the red markings on his face.

It was awesome Scott. We waited for so long to see one again, and then to see a pair! Amazing moment for us for sure. We got to watch them for a long time. I only spotted the male. A gentleman out for a walk pointed out the female to us, she was just a couple trees over from her mate.
