Post by: newfoundlander61 on February 18, 2011, 07:46:34 PM
This is my first time seeing one in the winter. Do they winter over here in Ontario.

I think you have a Brown Thrasher. According to my guide neither species winters here. Nice find!

I've never seen one, but I think that's actually a Brown Thrasher, which is still unusual for winter here but not as unusual as a Wood Thrush. It has white on its wing coverts.

Edit - Oh, Sahria beat me to it. :D

Thanks for the ID, I checked an older bird guide and took a guess.

I've only seen them at Carden and they are very skittish.  Great catch!

Wonderful photo Paul!

I sighted one of these gorgeous guys numerous times at Riverwood Park during January and February 2009.  Apparently it's a "shy" bird but every time I was there and put food on a tree stump, he would appear and come over very close to my fingers!    :D

It was interesting to meet and talk with a lot of people that had travelled quite a distance hoping to see and photograph this bird!  Met people from Windsor, Sarnia, Barrie, Oshawa, etc.
