Title: Day of the Deer
Post by: Bird Brain on February 21, 2011, 05:56:13 PM
Hi everyone.  This afternoon at 1pm, sighted 5 White-tailed Deer (1 male, 4 female) - male and one female munching on grass, 3 females sitting on ground in woods.  401 Eastbound, East of Erin Mills Pkwy, large field on South side of 401 - alongside Credit River.

3:20pm, sighted 3 White-tailed Deer (1 male, 2 female) at YYZ.  :)  From Dixie Rd., drive East along Courtneypark Dr. E. - after a few blocks, it curves South - drive a bit further South and look on the right hand (West) side - there's a small bridge by the Etobicoke River.  This is where I sighted the deer.

Just wanted to add to your sightings along 401. I was driving past the same area late afternoon on friday 19th and saw a herd of about 20 deer on the north side by the Credit. I was driving so couldn't distinguish male from female. T'was quite a sight though!!!

RKD ... :D that is awesome - always thrilling to see deer!  Thank You for your posting and add-on.   Back on the 18th at 2pm, I sighted 5 deer (1m, 4f) on the South side - assuming they're the same 5 as today.  The male is large, a darker brown colour and has antlers.  The females are smaller and a lighter tan colour.  All were running, playing, munching on grass and drinking water from the field (it was very watery that day!).

We went by that same area late afternoon on Feb 21 and saw approx 20 deer. A farmers field just before Creditview Rd. going eastbound on the 401. Awesome to see so many!

Wow...100...!!! until I saw my 20 the most I had ever seen at one time was a handful. I didn't realise they congregate in such large numbers. Must be the "Year of the Deer"
