Title: redpolls in the GTA
Post by: dbellilo on February 24, 2011, 09:33:04 PM
Hello folks,
Can anyone tell me of a reliable spot (or spots) to see redpolls these days? I'd love to get a few more shots of the beautiful fellows before they fly on out of here. Any tips, advice, locales would be so much appreciated. Thanking you in advance...

i have seen them everytime at the Leslie Spit, they eat the little birch seeds along the water edge in the woods. Also a litlte further east on the laekshore have seen them at Ashbridge's Bay.
I'm going to the spit tomorrow to look for the eiders, if you are around look for a little guy in a black coat with a poker toque, will be me :) can point you to the redpolls

thanks so much! i hope to be at the spit tomorrow also, but not 100% sure. i've seen the redpolls there twice before but seemed to spook them away both times. when i was last at the spit, i DID see the eiders, but walked right past them, thinking they were black ducks! they had their heads low and their bills hidden! but they were there, near pipit point, in the area people sometimes call "cell 4" along with the mallards and the swans...
thanks again!
