Title: Female White Shafted Flicker?

Northern Mockingbird.  I'm still trying to get the White-shafted Flicker on my life list...

What is the difference between the Northern Mockingbird and a White Shafted Flicker?

There is a Yellow-Shafted Flicker and a Red-Shafted Flicker.  I've never heard of a White-Shafted Flicker.

That's OK..you can laugh at me...when I read "white shafted flicker" I was tearing through my Peterson's.....it took me about 15 minutes to scroll down....

To insert your image directly into your post, click the "Img" box (second from the right, below the "Subject" box), paste the location of your image into the message, and then click the "Img" box again.

To get the location of your image, right click on it and click "Properties".  The location for this one is http://farm1.static.flickr.com/166/4206 ... 7d.jpg?v=0 (http://farm1.static.flickr.com/166/420615029_aa895a677d.jpg?v=0)

Click the "Preview" button before you submit.  If you don't see your image in the preview, there is probably some extraneous junk at the end of the location.  For this one, I had to remove the "?v=0".

The result is this:

Thanks Brian, I'm trying but still not able to do it yet!  I'll have it downpat (figuring out how to alter the address) so that the pictures will show up in the thread!

The Yellow and Red shafted and Gilded Flickers unfortunately no longer exist as three species They lumped the three species into one and they are now called the Northern Flicker.  So,some listers had to eliminate two birds from their life list.  The Yellow, Gilded,and Red shafted flickers are concidered races ( or forms )  of the one species, Norther flicker.  Now we have one species only and that is the Norther Flicker with three color forms.

I believe that the three species were amalgamated into one, but the Gilded Flicker has since returned to species status - separate from the Northern (formerly Yellow-shafted and Red-shafted) Flicker.

Your are right. You must really be keeping up with all the recent changes. They must have changed the Gilded Flicker back to species quite recently. I went and checked on the Cornell Site and they have a note on Norther Flicker saying that the Gilded Flicker has recently been given species statis and the will have an account of it in the near future. Good for you keeping up with the new changes. I am an old dog who doesn't learn new tricks well. I still stumble out Old Squaw when I see a Long-tailed Duck. Thanks for the update, Bruce
