Title: Bluebird
Post by: farmer on March 04, 2011, 07:50:43 PM
Found a pair of Bluebirds in our orchard this afternoon. It was almost 5 o'clock and too cloudy to get great photos, but was glad to see this sure sign of spring!

Wow that IS great to know they are coming back.  We are supposed to have an unusually cold spring ... hope they don't come north too soon.

We have been fortunate to have them nest on our farm most of the last ten years. They are kind of a shy bird, but beautiful to see. Hope they will use our nesting boxes again this year.
Title: lots of bluebirds at Bronte Creek Provinical park
Post by: lovemypt on March 08, 2011, 07:29:14 PM
I have seen many bluebirds at Bronte Creek these last few weeks. I even saw 2 pairs on Feb 2nd, I thought was unusual but after talking to someone at the Eastern Bluebird society, he told me they have several pairs often overwinter in the area and near the lakefront.  Last week when I was there I saw at least 15 individuals in 2 areas. If anyone is interested in seeing Bluebirds, then this would be a good place to try. The day use park has many areas setup for nesting boxes and the Bluebird is very common there

Great info .. thanks for sharing. We often go to Bronte. We went all the way to Carden Alvar last summer .. this would be much closer.

Note to Luv2Bird

I don't know if you manged to check out Bronte Creek yet, but I went today and saw 4-5 pairs starting to check out the boxes already, a bit timid but you can still get fairly close for a shot.  Best at mid day or early afternoon as the sun was not right this morning for me.

This guy is definitely not a Bluebird but was found in the wooded area to the east of the orchard field I told you about earlier

Yep......a male has already claimed one of the boxes in my backyard...... :)

Hopefully the Swallows won't kick him out and will stay in their usual box when they return.
