Title: Why did the cattle egret cross the road?
Post by: farmer on March 10, 2011, 03:21:06 PM
We ran across ( and almost ran OVER) this cattle egret crossing the road in Miami Beach. We stopped for about a minute before it wandered into the shrubs in the median. It could have cared less about the traffic, but was very interested in something in the shrubs, a lizard perhaps?

I love and miss Florida. Every small pond at every highway ramp is alive with Herons and Egrets not to mention Anhingas and Ibises.

I couldn't agree more Lloyd.  Always something to see.

My wife and I spent a few days in Orlando, before and after taking a two week Caribbean cruise (our first). We stayed at our friends timeshare which was on the shores of a large pond and it was really cool being able to go outside and be only a few feet from great blue heron, egrets, ibises, etc. that were really used to having people around (especially at feeding time!). I've posted a set of pictures on Flickr which include many birds and other wildlife. Just google 'HowieNH' and you will find my photostream. You can look at all the pix using the slideshow or view them individually via the thumbnails. Btw, I didn't take my heavy gear so all the pictures were shot with either my A650 or SX210.
