Title: They're Back! RWBB's at Lake Aquitaine - Sat. March 12th
Post by: Bird Brain on March 12, 2011, 11:07:57 AM
Hi everyone.  I was walking around Lake Aquitaine this morning between 7:45-9:15am and They're Back!!!   Lots of male Red-winged Blackbirds trilling up a storm.  Let the head pecking begin!

Sadly, I discovered a dead one hanging in some shrubs.   :(

Other sightings:

Blue Jays x 5
Canada Geese - a few at lake, lots flying overhead heading in a NW direction
Cardinals x 5 (3m, 2f)
Chickadees - lots
Mallards - lots
Robins x 2

there were likely some RWBB dotting the trees along the 404. they were too far to see the red on the wings, but they didn't look like starlings and definitely weren't crows

Richard ... cool.  Seeing lots of RWBB's lately.  :)  I've discovered the secret to avoiding the peck to back of one's head while out walking at parks - look at the bird then toss him a 1/2 shelled peanut - keeps the guy busy.
