Title: Horned Grebes in Etobicoke...

Greetings!

There are quite a lot of Horned Grebes along the Etobicoke waterfront. They can be seen at Colonel Sam Smith and Humber Bays East and West. At Colonel Sam Smith they are in the marina towards the mouth of the marina on the West side. In Humber bay they are at the boat launch West of Mimico creek and along the sidewalk of Humber Bay west. At the boat launch yesterday there was also a Pied bill Grebe.

They are in a variety of plumages from full breeding to winter.

Getting to Colonel Sam Smith: exit the Gardiner at Kipling and go south past Lakeshore Blvd. Humber Bays are also south of the Gardiner at Parklawn.

I must see this!  A Horned Grebe is on my list.  I saw a nesting pair of, ummmmm, Ring-necked Grebes at Sam Smith (I think that is what they were).  Red-necked came to mind first but that can't be right unless yer in a Jeff Foxworthy skit.   :roll:

Foxworthy wins on this one Rob LOL! they are red-necked Grebes

I was there today and saw the Grebes, there was one that was in spring plumage but he was swimming away from me, but more then enough of them were swimming around, on the north end of the park there also was a hawk but he flew into a tree before I could see for sure what kind, and near the small pond there were some Ring-necked ducks, check the photo area for pics!

I'm behind on my grebes... I've only ever seen Horned Grebes in non-breeding plumage. Time to give the new binos a spin. :D
