Title: Are the nests being made now? When are the birds mating?

I know this might vary a tad from bird to bird .... but when do the nests build + the eggs lay?

Examples and specifics appreciated!

I've had House Finches build a nest in March on a Christmas Wreath...... :shock:

Other backyard early birds are the Doves, Robins and Bluebirds......to get in multiple clutches.

Goldfinches are pretty late in comparison.......well into June

i also saw a study that spoke about the common pigeon we have here in N. America and how A lone pigeon hen will not lay an egg unless she sees a reflection of herself in a mirror.

A local store by our home has huge mirrors installed in front of the doors and it seems a pair or more of pigeons lay eggs constantly , all year round.

Our cardinals have started feeding eachother so they should be building a nest soon. I've also seen some dark eyed junco's with hay/grass poping into a low bush which is strange as they usually leave my yard around May.

There's a female Robin who's already sitting on a nest in our front yard, and it seems the Hermit Thrush that's been around since January has finally found a special someone; I've been seeing the pair of them hopping around together under the bushes out back.  The Red-breasted Nuthatches across the street have already paired up, as have the House Finch couple that makes daily visits to our feeders, and there are so many Mourning Dove couples!  We also have a pair of House Sparrows making use of a bird house I put in the tree just outside our back door; it wasn't originally meant for them, but they enlarged the hole before I could put a portal protector on. :roll:

as per my post in backyard birding  a hawk took one of the couple and now this poor and cinfused lone robin is making all types of weird, low pitch whistle calls searching for his partner,,, what next?  

will this robin search for a new mate?

Yesterday, Cooper's Hawk (female) sitting in nest and Robin (female) sitting in nest at Maplewood Park.

Today, Robin (female) sitting in nest at Lake Aquitaine.

Tree Swallows......Eastern Bluebirds......Chipping Sparrows......House Finches

Lucky you!! Such beautiful pictures. The Bluebirds frequenting our feeders in the winter never came back, boohoo. But we do have a Chickadee nesting in the bluebird box, 6 tiny eggs, probably due to hatch any day now

Wow!! has anyone seen the bluebird in Etobicoke?

Eastern Bluebird ? .... what a a treat.

How did you get this type of bird to nest in your house? .. and why didn;t a robin or other type?

We would love to see them in North etobicoke...

Eastern Bluebirds generally prefer open meadow and pasture surrounded by trees.

My Bluebird box is at the edge of my yard facing inwards overlooking the lawn.......with a wheat field behind it.

About 50 feet away is the Tree Swallow box oriented the same way.

The two boxes are different styles......and each species always choose the same box.

Earlier in the spring......as usual, the barbaric House Sparrows took over both boxes.

Three males were trapped and dispatched.........all was well after that.

This years Bluebird pair were new to the Mealworm feeding game and would not oblige.

After some extended training......they are now on board and come to my deck to eat.

The Tree Swallows.......Bluebirds.......and a set of Robins all fledged successfully last week.

In between feeding the yutes....the Bluebirds have already rebuilt the nest and have four (4) new eggs in place...... :shock:

A pair of Waxwings were building a nest last week as well...... :)
