Title: The sparrows are back and the raptors follow
Post by: Leslie Kinrys on April 04, 2007, 10:55:59 PM
On April 2, in our yard, I saw my first Fox Sparrow of the season. On April 3, in our neighbours' yard, I saw my first Song Sparrow of the season. On both those days, a male Hairy Woodpecker chased the local Downies off the suet feeder.

Today, a small flock of Juncos was feeding in our yard. The local Cooper's Hawk dropped down on them, but it was hard to tell if it made a kill. Shortly after that, a Turkey Vulture saoared through our neighbourhood.

I have two singing fox sparrows in my yard this morning (April 5).  That's #70 for the yard list.  Location is near Mt. Pleasant Cem.  Also juncos singing today and for last several days.
